Celebrating the Holy Week and Easter through social media

Stephen Savarimuthu OMI – We are Oblates (Frs. Inui, Steve & Bro. Yagi) who form a community at Naruto in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. Our Parish, St. Joseph, has a mission station in Anan. In order to prevent the spread of new coronavirus infections, we are not allowed to have any form of group gatherings in churches throughout Japan. Therefore, the three of us decided to have an Oblate community celebration of Holy Week and Easter, and make it available to people through social media. Since most people in Japan use LINE and FACEBOOK, we agreed to stream the liturgy LIVE!

Holy Thursday – Washing of Feet

Apart from this Easter liturgy, Bro. Yagi uses LINE regularly for his Bible sharing classes. Being in charge of the Tokushima mission team, I also use LINE and FACEBOOK to celebrate the Eucharist both in Japanese and English. This gives not only Japanese but also foreigners an opportunity to participate in LIVE masses. Thanks to technology.

May the Peace of the Risen Lord be with all of us especially during this time of fear and uncertainty.
